We are a family owned and operated business!

Over fourteen years ago the 'idea' of opening a wine store arrived at our house. I had recently been 'downsized' out of my job at the College and my health had taken a turn for the worse the year before. Without employment and with our daughters both in university, I wondered how, and indeed if, I would live through my 50's. Catherine had seen an advertisement in the Examiner about a wine making franchise and having been an enthusiastic home wine and beer maker, she encouraged me to 'look into it…' Well, the rest is history as they say!

Our store opened in February 1997, Jennifer and Sarah graduated from Trent that spring and volunteered to help Dad in the store that summer. Catherine and our son Michael joined the following year. As the business has grown, we have been fortunate to have had a number of Trent students working with us, contributing their efforts and their ideas as winemaking assistants in the fermentation room and assisting our customers with bottling and choosing their wines. Presently Ashley, Rachel and Shannon fill these roles.

Now, Michael has moved to Dublin, Ireland to pursue his filmmaking career. Jennifer married her husband Mark in Sept 1998 and has 2 boys, Adam and Ryan. Sarah married Bob in August 2002 and has 2 girls, Natalie and Leah. Lately, our daughters have assumed greater responsibilities running the "everyday" of the business as Managers. Catherine retired from her duties here at the Shoppe in January 2009, but visits regularily and I am a little less involved, semi-retired to the farm with the horses and visits from our four grandchildren.

The commitment and support and hard work from family and staff, and the loyal support of our patrons have made our family enterprise a success. …So we thank you! Without you, we wouldn't be here.
